Season's End/NFD, et al at the Peel

Well if you weren't there you missed a scorcher of a gig. Opening bands were entertaining.  Opus were unremarkably so, but Adastreia came across really well.  One or two glitches causing a few nervous frowns.  Lots of bands in this style straddling goth and metal emerging onto the circuit, it seems, and with a little more polish and fewer nerves this particular outfit have potential, and deserve to be taking steps further up the ladder of success.

NFD's set was a masterclass in experienced, relaxed and professional performance.  There are a few stadium bands who could learn a thing or two about their craft from these guys, although chatting with Bob after the performance he was of the opinion they'd performed a very sloppy set.  Quite bizarre, because if that was sloppy, then what constitutes crisp?  Occasional feedback from stage gear aside, sound was spot on and the performance tripped along with each of the individuals in the band operating like well-honed components that go to make up of the whole machine.  Which is not to say that the result was mechanical.  In spite of the effortless appearance, what came out was powerful and engaging, and all too soon the set was over.

The final set of the day saw Season's End at their best yet.  The gorgeous Becki's vocals sailed away to the heights, the band pumping out the power beneath.  They quite clearly had a wail of a time on stage, and performed their hearts out, which came out in the end product.  Every element was the closest they've yet been to perfect.  The whole was so captivating that, lost in the moment, an hour's set just vanished in a flash.  Their star can only be on the rise...
